ROD FEATURES
BE Oil Squirters
Straight H-Beam
This oil hole in the Big End neck allows pres- sure fed oil to squirt additional oil to the cylinder walls on the thrust side of the pis- ton.
The stoutest beam configuration available. It is capable to handle the most abusive forces in an engine.
A-Beam
Dowel Pin
A light weight rod design for high engine speeds and limited cylinder pressures.
The dowel pin is the alternative option to ring dowels for locating the rod cap. It al- lows the bolts to be positioned closer to the big end bore for improved big end stability. Also allows for additional rotating clear- ance of fitting smaller bores. A larger “funnel” at the top oil hole gives a better chance to collect oil for the PE lubri- cation. It is often combined with a PE bump out.
Super A-Beam
Oil Reservoir on PE
With an increased beam thickness, the Su- per A-Beam design has a higher load ca- pacity than the regular A-beam design.
Bearings
PE Radius
Carrillo can source Clevite bearing shells for most applications where the bearing shells and can help find a bearing to re- place a babbitted application.
All Carrillo non-bushed rods are manufac- tured with a 0.020” radius as a standard. This option gives the opportunity to in- crease the radius if required for reduced edge loading.
Stepped h-beam rod
Radius Groove
The narrowed h-beam allows for more weight savings for applications limited cylin- der pressures
This feature creates an oil reservoir within the PE ID and distributes the oil towards the areas of high contact pressure.
Stepped big end
Ribbed PE
With an increased big end thickness, the big end housing becomes more rigid. Allow- ing for larger bolts while minimizing the increase in reciprocating weight.
This feature has the H-Beam design ex- tended around the PE-strap for increased stiffness/minimum PE distortion under in- ertia load. An option that is used for high engine speed applications.
Pin end pocket
The pocket relieves peak stresses at the 6 o’clock position of the pin bore. The pocket will not always result in a reduction in weight.
Radius Slot
The radius slot represents the well-known and durable standard Carrillo H-Beam Rod design.
Big end pocket
The big end pocket relieves peak stresses at the 12 o’clock position of the big end bore. The pocket will not always result in a reduction in weight.
Square Slot
The strong H-beam configuration can han- dle extreme engine loads. The tapered beam allows for some weight saving on the reciprocation end and gives increased clearance for fully boxed pistons. A reduced radius in the H-beam slot allows for additional weight saving with minimal compromise of rod rigidity. Ideal for appli- cations that are critical on meeting a low target weight.
Short Bolts
We offer short bolts in select sizes for im- proved rotating clearance. Combined with dowel pins for additional clearance.
